Inclusive Strength Class
A Strength Class for Every Body
It has always been the mission of Inclusive Strength to make fitness approachable to those who typically feel ostracized by the gym. Whether you’re living in a larger body, a member of the queer community, or a woman who has never touched a weight before, you are welcome here.
This drop-in strength class focuses on 1-2 barbell lifts and full body accessories that utilize dumbbells, kettlebells, bands, and bodyweight. The difficulty is suitable for all levels, even if you’ve never touched a weight before! Think of this as a big personal training session with 4-12 people in a class working at their own pace and station.
We’re not here to get shredded and lean. There is no fancy aesthetic and you can show up as you are without feeling judged. The vibe is simple: lift as heavy as you like, laugh with some of the nicest people in Vancouver, and bust a dance move in-between sets.
If that sounds like you’re jam, join us at Thunder & Lightning Athletic Club Mondays at 7pm (co-ed class, everyone is welcome) or Thursdays at 7pm (women only, including non-binary femmes, trans women, and women to fullest inclusivity of the word).

FAQs
Why should I lift weights?
People often find strength training intimidating to start yet it is incredibly important for ongoing health to maintain bone density, muscle mass, and independence as we age. Not to mention it’s empowering AF! Learn the skills to lift safely in a friendly environment and build strength that will promote longevity and wellbeing.
Will I get bulky?
Firstly, what is so bad about getting bulky? We are ALL allowed to take up space and be strong, so let’s normalize bulky. But if you’re still afraid of getting too muscular, rest assured that getting bulky takes years of hard work, the perfect diet, regimented training, great genetics, and possibly performance enhancing drugs.
How do I sign up?
This is a drop-in class ($35+GST) so you can sign up whenever you want through the calendar below or by clicking the link in bio on Inclusive Strength’s Instagram and TikTok.
Is there a late cancellation fee?
Since space is limited, so any cancellations within 12 hours of class will not be issued a refund. Thank you for your understanding.
How many people are in a class?
Classes are capped at 12 people so you get individual attention from the trainer to learn the lifts, and everyone works at their own pace.
When does the class run?
Our co-ed class runs Monday at 7pm and our women-only class runs Thursday at 7pm. If there are fewer than 4 people signed up by 3pm the day of, class will be cancelled and drop-ins will be refunded.
Who is this class for?
Everyone is invited on Monday nights, and on Thursday nights we only welcome in women to the full inclusivity of the word! From first time gym newbs to advanced lifters, these workouts are easily scalable to meet you where you’re at so you feel adequately challenged. Our community is welcoming, size inclusive, supportive, judgement-free, and full of laughs!
What is the class format?
Every class is a full body strength session that incorporates barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, bands, and bodyweight exercises. Typically, there are two complexes, the first of which starts with a main barbell lift that’s usually around 1-5 reps at a heavy weight of your choice. The second complex will be accessory work at lighter loads for higher reps.
Where does the class take place?
Class is hosted at Thunder & Lightning Athletic Club: 427 Granville Street, downtown Vancouver, in the basement of the United Kingdom building (the stairwell is located outside to the left of the building’s main entrance). Since there is only street parking nearby, we recommend taking the skytrain to Waterfront station or riding the bus.
What can I expect at the gym?
We typically have most of the gym to ourselves since it is a private training gym. There are plenty of racks, barbells, plates, and weights so everyone can have their own little station to work at during class. Your coach will greet you when you enter and point you in the direction of change rooms/bathrooms, water fountain, and cubbies to stash your belongings.
